Cognitive Behavior Intervention (CBI)
What is Cognitive Behavior Intervention/ Reasoning and Reacting for youth & young adults? (Ages 14-24)
The concept behind Cognitive Behavior Intervention entails having an awareness and understanding of ourselves and knowing why we react to certain things the way that we do. It is having a clear knowledge of the thinking behind our behavior and the consequence of our actions. Studies show that behavior is influenced by the way one thinks (“cognition”) and that criminal behavior is often the result of an erroneous thought process. Cognitive behavioral training can enable changes in the criminal thought process, producing more socially acceptable behavior.
Reasoning and Reacting for Youth & Young Adults has been intended and structured particularly for “At-Risk” adolescents and young offenders. The course has been designed to deliver 60 structured, one hour sessions; R&R attempts to replace deep-rooted adolescent thinking and cognitive skills deficiencies that can and will develop behaviors that are conventional to society. A major emphasis on the program is to instruct youth to be more philosophical in their thought process, more compliant, open minded, and to develop reasoning skills that will ultimately lead them to “thinking outside the box”. The program is designed to provide the youth with the tools that will lead them to making better decisions, be less impulsive and to slow down and “stop and think”. The youth will learn to make the best decisions for their lives that will ultimately be acceptable to society and lead them making better judgment in “tough” situations.
